The Hon. Anthony James Fels was first elected to the Legislative Council as a Liberal member for the Agricultural Region in 2005, - winning his seat from the Greens Party. With the strong swing achieved, his surplus votes also elected Hon Margaret Rowe for the Liberal Party. A keen supporter of free enterprise, farming and family values, his policies portray a strong passion for Western Australia, its land and people.

After several years of service - during which time he campaigned heavily against the decriminalisation of prostitution and the prevention of daylight savings - the Hon. Anthony Fels made the decision to leave the Liberal Party prior to the election.

Mr Fels will stand with the Family First party in the coming election, renewing his commitment to the values on which he was first elected.

Stance

"The government has sold out on women in this state by advancing this legislation now. It is legislation that will contribute to further family breakdown through increased availability of prostitution in Western Australia." - the Hon. Anthony Fels, 2008.

As a Family First candidate, Anthony Fels continues his support of family values, free enterprise and rural Australia. His four-part platform focuses on:

A Strong Stance Against Prostitution

The decriminalisation and legitimisation of prostitution - as seen in other Australian states - often results in a huge increase in illegal brothels and street prostitution. Anthony Fels is strongly opposed to the exploitation of women in any way.

Opposing Sunday Trading

Independent businesses and small enterprise will not benefit from the de-regulation of trading hours. For this reason and more, the people of Western Australia voted against Deregulation of trading hours in the 2005 referendum.

Stricter Regulation of Finance Brokers

The government's lax attitude to finance broker regulation directly disadvantaged a great number of Western Australians, many of them in their retirement. A strict stance against shady brokers and con-men is important to the state's moral future. "Anthony Fels pursued the Government into finally paying $30 million to the elderly victims of this sorry saga."

The Abolition of Daylight Saving

Western Australians, particularly those in the rural areas that make up the Agricultural Region, have shown themselves time and time again to be in strong opposition to the government's Daylight Savings agenda.

Branching Out

As the government and the opposition grow ever closer in policy and ideology, the Hon. Anthony Fels sees the need for a strong independent political sector, representing the true wants and needs of the Western Australian voting public.

Initially planning to establish his own party, the People Against Daylight Savings, Mr Fels chose instead to join the Family First party, a group with a platform and an established support base similar to his own.

As a member of the Family First party, Mr Fels has the ways and the means to bring about effective political change, achieving a better way of life for Western Australians of all walks of life.
